Help us to create #MorePlay in Pictou County.  Join our team as a Y-On-The-Move Coordinator.

 

As a YMCA we know the value of being healthy and active, the importance to bring people together and the benefits of social and physical activities on a community’s health. This program will emphasize the benefits of “healthy” living and it will get our community moving and active.

 

As part-of the YMCA team, you will demonstrate the value of the YMCA throughexcellent communication skills and your dynamic personality.You will have knowledge of the body, nutrition, and active programs through a background in Human Kinetics or a similar program and you will have knowledge of marketing and promotions, as well as an interest in working with children, youth and seniors.

 

Keyresponsibilities

  • Develop and implement a Y-On-the-Move Program for summer 2016.
  • Promote active living at local festivals, and community events, as well as host programs/activities/games that focus on nutrition and physical activity, children, youth, seniors, and families.
  • Respond to communities, schools, and group requests to run a program.
  • Create and implement programs in local spaces – parks, beaches, downtown areas, playgrounds and etc.
  • Assess, develop and provide recommendations for the viability of a Y-On-the-Move Program (fall, winter and etc.
  • Assess the Pictou County community needs and provide strategic input into positioning of the YMCA in the community.
  • Develop relationships with other not-for-profit groups/ community organizations.
  • Assist with YMCA fundraisers.
  • Special projects as required.

 

Competencies

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Qualifications/Experience

  • Must be enrolled in a university or college level program for Fall 2016
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Health Education Background/interest.
  • Computer skills/Knowledge of social media outlets.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to talk to a large number of people and organize group activities
  • Up-to-date criminal record check and child abuse registry check.
  • First Aid certification

 

 This position will require you to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and most weekends.

Early Educator Job Description

Nature & Scope

The Early Educator plays a leadership role in the development and implementation of the children. The Early Educator is responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of the child care center - ensuring that all legislative and regulatory standards are met or exceeded consistently, and the level of programming is of an excellent caliber. The Early Educator uses sensitivity and maturity in dealing with both adults and children.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the everyday planning consists of high quality, age-appropriate programming that exceeds Provincial licensing requirements, along with Playing to Learn
  • Ensure that provincial licensing requirements are met and that we are current on all relevant legislation and policies.
  • Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of children ages 3 months to 5 years of age
  • Ensure that children are supervised at all times, and that the children are involved in safe and appropriate activities.
  • Ensures open, ongoing communication between parents/guardians of children and staff members
  • Actively participate in Association initiatives involving campaigns, fundraising programs and other educational and promotional initiatives
  • Marketing and recruitment of volunteers and participants
  • Ensure accurate children records are kept
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding issues with staff and program participants
  • Meet strategic goals as agreed upon with the Director, of Child Care
  • Demonstrate and promote a personal understanding of, and appreciation for the mission, vision and values of the YMCA
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with NS Department of Community Services

Qualifications:

Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification

A current criminal reference and child abuse registry check must be provided.

Experience working with Children

Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent
